Warwick Road Surgery, Carlisle

“The quality of the digital recordings is much better and I no longer have a desk covered with small tapes and post-it note instructions. It’s all computer based and much more efficient.”

Carolynn Parsons, Medical Secretary

The challenges:

Tapes often got lost or damaged. Sound quality was poor. If a dictation was accidentally missed, it could not be retrieved once recorded over.

Life with Lexacom:

Easy to see what needs to be done when there’s no concerns over losing confidential information. Sound quality much clearer. Old dictations can easily be retrieved if letters are lost or details need checking

The full story:

Since switching from tapes to Lexacom, life has improved for doctors, secretaries and their patients at Warwick Road.

Tapes used to arrive without information of what was on them.  Time was wasted searching for urgent dictations and tapes sometimes went missing or were chewed by the machine.  All that has changed with dictations now arriving instantly on screen, complete with priority levels and patient details.

Medical Secretary, Carolynn Parsons, finds the system much easier to use:

“The quality of the digital recordings is much better and I no longer have a desk covered with small tapes and post-it note instructions.  It’s all computer based and much more efficient.”

The Lexacom system recently came into its own when a letter got missed.  “Somehow I accidentally marked a dictation as completed when I hadn’t actually typed it.  Thankfully, I could retrieve it and transcribe it without delay.  If that had been on a tape, the recording would have gone and I would have had to ask the doctor to repeat the dictation.” Carolynn explained.

Some doctors at the practice had originally been reluctant to change but, having tried the system out during a free trial, soon changed their minds and switched to Lexacom Digital Dictation in December 2011.
