How do I change how Echo returns my transcription?

Echo can return transcription in one of two modes.

By default, Echo will return your transcription as a series of simulated key presses. Echo will “type” your transcription into the target application.

You may prefer this if:

• The target application does not support pasting from the clipboard
• Your clipboard is in continuous use by other applications
• The target application is running in a Remote Desktop and Clipboard redirection is not enabled
• You are using Comprehension Engine®  proofreading

ⓘ  If you have upgraded from using Echo 2 you will find that this setting is enabled for you by default. If you prefer, these instructions tell you how to return this to the original Echo 2 behaviour.

It is also possible to set Echo to use your clipboard to return transcription to the program you have in focus. Fragments are returned to the program in a similar way to copying and pasting text. This is the original behaviour of Echo 2.

To set your preference:

• Go to the Menu > Settings
• Select Echo
  
• Toggle Words appear letter-by-letter setting on if you wish to use simulated key presses
  
• Toggle Words appear letter-by-letter setting off if you wish to use the clipboard
  ⓘ  You will need to disable Comprehension Engine® proofreading and Hold Transcription settings
• Click Save
  

NOTE: We no longer recommend this setting. The Comprehension Engine – which proofreads your transcript, should be switched ON for the best results.
If you want a preview of your text, you can now turn this on in the settings.
