Echo is Lexacom’s live speech recognition. Allowing you to enter text using your voice.
With the desktop app, you can use Echo to type anywhere you would normally use a keyboard with no need to copy and paste the text.

In the Lexacom Mobile App, you can use Echo in any text field or in it’s own tab.

Echo Setting

Echo can be set to automatically type into all text fields or can be activated manually.

  • Click the dots in the top right to view the app menu

  • Then select ‘Settings’

  • In the settings menu, tap the slider to toggle off/on Echo typing for text fields.

If this setting is on, Echo will activate automatically whenever you tap into any text field in the app.

Using Echo in text Fields

Simply tap into any text box where you wish to enter text.

If Echo is set to automatic mode, it will start typing as you speak.
If Echo is in manual mode, you can activate it by tapping on the Echo button at the top of the app

When Echo is active, the icon at the top will turn red and animated

Using the Echo Tab

Creating a Transcript

Access the Echo tab from the Echo icon at the bottom of the app.

In the Echo tab, click Record to activate Echo.

Echo will transcribe your speech in the Echo text box.

Echo will automatically punctuate and proofread your transcription.

You can start and stop as much as you like but it works best with context, so full paragraphs will give you the best results.

When you are done, press Stop and wait a moment for the processing to complete.

Using the transcript

Once you have the text you need, you can copy the text to paste elsewhere, or create a job to send the output to yourself or other Lexacom user in your team.

Copy Text

Tap the ‘Copy text’ button to copy the text to your clipboard.

You can switch to another app and paste the text (typically by holding your finger where you wish to type and tapping ‘paste’).

Create Job

Creating a job will allow you to send the text to yourself as a Workflow Job, or on to your secretarial team if you have one.

  • Click ‘Create Job’ and you will be presented with a list of available options for your team.
  • As a single-user, you will be able to select “Send to Inbox”. The job will then appear in your Jobs Inbox (on mobile and on PC if using the Windows application).

Job Types

As with most things in Lexacom, options can be customised at team level. The most common default options include:

Setup Job Name Function
Single user (e.g. most mobile trial users) Send to Inbox As a single user, this will send the job directly to your inbox where you can view, edit and complete it.
Full Team (multi-user teams with secretarial staff) Send to Inbox This will send the job directly to your inbox where you can view, edit and complete it AND will allow you to send it on to your secretary after reviewing it.
Full Team (multi-user teams with secretarial staff) Send to Secretary This will send the job directly to your secretarial team to process and complete.

When the work is done

When you have the transcription you need and/or have sent it on as a job, you can start a new Echo transcription.

Click ‘Clear’ to clear the text and begin a new live transcription.

If you navigate away from the Echo tab (e.g. click to your inbox) you will see a warning about unsaved work.

This indicates that when you move away from this tab, the Echo recording will be cleared.

If you sent your work as a job, that job will still be available but the actual transcript in the Echo tab will be cleared when you navigate away from it.

Using Echo Offline

When Echo is offline (i.e. you have no internet connection), you can still record audio to be transcribed later when you have connection.

  • Record the Audio you wish to process
  • Click the Save icon in the top right to save the audio

  • Lexacom will notify you that it saved successfully

  • To reload this audio once you reconnect, tap ‘Open’ (top right)

  • Tap on the saved recording:

  • The recording will load, you can play back to check it is correct.
  • You will need to press Transcribe and wait for the app to process the audio before selecting any outputs.
  • Select the output you require and proceed as above.
  • You can delete audio from the list by pressing ‘open’ and clicking on the rubbish bin icon next to the relevant audio.
