Busy GP surgery, the Brampton Medical Practice in Cumbria, has switched to Lexacom Digital Dictation to improve the accuracy of dictations and enable its branch surgeries use the dictation and workflow software.

One of the main features which attracted Brampton to Lexacom was the way the software works with the surgery’s patient records system, EMIS Web. Lexacom is the only digital dictation software approved by EMIS and integrates fully with clinical system. Instead of doctors having to separately input patient details, the relevant information is automatically included in every dictation sent to the secretarial team, ensuring the data is totally accurate and saving time in the process.

Practice GP, Dr Matthew Cooper, said:

“Lexacom’s integration with EMIS Web is very good. Although we have always made every effort to ensure patient data is accurate and information is sent to the right person, Lexacom significantly reduces the chance of errors occurring.”

Although the surgery had been using a different digital dictation supplier, there had been problems getting it to work reliably at the practice’s branch surgeries. Lexacom has been designed to enable data to be shared across sites, even where no network connection exists. All data is encrypted to NHS standards, protecting patient confidentiality.

Dictations can also be recorded on the move via the Lexacom Mobile app, something that has proved popular with Dr Cooper:

“Lexacom Mobile is extremely useful. It allows me to record dictations when I’m working from home, and send them to my secretarial team exactly as if I were in the surgery. It’s a very clever use of the cloud and a good addition to the Lexacom software.”

As with most technology, there were some teething issues as everyone got used to the new system but these were quickly ironed out with support from Lexacom’s technical help team.
