Uninstalling Echo 2

Upgrading from Echo 2.8 to Lexacom®

This page is aimed at users of Echo who are upgrading from older version of Echo to the latest Lexacom software as an Echo only user.

The following explains why and how to upgrade.
If you are looking for how to use the new Echo, find out more here.

Why Upgrade?

Our latest software offers improved accuracy and functionality, including our new Comprehension Engine® ‘proof-reading mode’.

The latest Lexacom offers a combined application. If you wish to use additional Lexacom services in the future, these can now be switched on easily without the need for additional installations.

Echo 2.8 is no longer being updated.

How to install Lexacom

Most users can download and install the latest software from their Admin Portal.

Some organisations may have Lexacom available to install from a centralised software portal.

Full instructions on how to install Lexacom can be found here  – How do I install Lexacom? – Lexacom

We would recommend uninstalling Echo 2.8 when you upgrade to Lexacom.

How to identify the right software

Echo 2.8 is the older version of the software. The most recent software is called Lexacom.

In either software, you can check the current version. From the menu, under ‘Help’ you can select ‘About’ to view the version information.

The icon for Echo on your desktop will look like this: The icon for the latest version on your desktop will look like this:

The Echo login Screen will appear like this: The Lexacom login screen will look like this:

Launching at start-up

We would recommend uninstalling Echo 2.8 when you install the Lexacom software but we recognise that some sites require support from their IT company to do this.

In the meantime, you may find the old software still launches automatically when you start Windows.

To avoid this, you can change the settings in Echo as follows:

  • Login to Echo
  • Click the ‘gear’ icon to view the menu
  • Select ‘Settings’
  • This will open the Settings Dialog box.
  • Select ‘Windows Start-up’
  • Unselect the box next to ‘Run Echo when Windows starts up’

Next time you launch Windows, Echo 2.8 will no longer launch at start up.

How to uninstall Echo 2

Users that have the permission to uninstall programs can uninstall Echo 2 from Add and Remove Programs. To do this:

  • Go to Add or Remove Programs – in Windows 11 you can find this quickly by searching for ‘uninstall’
  • Find Echo 2 – you can use the search field and search for ‘Echo’
  • Click the ellipsis (…) against Echo to show options
  • Click Uninstall
  • Allow the wizard to uninstall Echo

Your IT service might not permit you to uninstall applications; in this case, please contact them to assist with uninstalling Echo 2 from your computer.
