A solution to analogue – and digital – problems

The successful introduction of Lexacom's digital dictation software at a GP practice in Blackpool has highlighted how some practice managers are turning to Lexacom to replace other problematic digital systems, rather than just outdated analogue technology.

The North Shore Surgery in the Lancashire seaside resort was experiencing problems with another digital dictation system and recently turned to Lexacom to provide an alternative solution.

The surgery enjoyed a free trial with Lexacom in December and was so impressed with the results that it opted to complete a full-time switch to Lexacom software at the end of January.

Peter Hamer, the deputy practice manager, admitted that there was a reluctance to move away from the previous digital dictation system in some quarters of the North Shore Surgery but said the impressive showing of Lexacom's software had addressed the issue.

"I think Lexacom's equipment and software has performed a small miracle," he explained, "as I never thought for one minute that one of our doctors would be converted - but he is!"

Lexacom's bid to further improve its digital dictation service to the healthcare sector will be stepped up in the coming weeks when it officially launches its new-for-2010 software platform.
